BEHIND THE SCENES
THE SONG PROJECT: ART OF THE SONG
mixing session (video) 0:55
The first mixing session for the upcoming CD release by The Song Project. It's due to be released in September on Paved Earth Music.
This duo developed as an online recording project - Derek Lee Bronston (Tom Harrell, Cecil Taylor) recorded in Brooklyn and me in Europe. The current results of those efforts can be found here: http://thesongproject.pavedearthmusic.com/
When Derek was visiting in Switzerland recently, we went into the studio and recorded the official CD. It has new originals (one of them I wrote just for this recording) and even a cover of AC/DC's "All Night Long", a Radiohead tune called "Packt Like Sardines In A Crushed Tin" and "Mad World" by Tears for Fears. The project has really grown into an engaging musical performance where each song is explored freely and melodically.

The Songs
song 4
Blue in Green
It has long been speculated that pianist Bill Evans wrote "Blue in Green", even though the most famous recoding of the piece on the album "Kind of Blue" and most jazz fakebooks credit Miles Davis only with its composition. In his autobiography, Davis maintains that he alone composed the songs on "Kind of Blue". Either way, for all of us, it's a beautiful tune and we're honored to present it here.
song 3
My Funny Valentine
"My Funny Valentine" is a show tune from the 1937 Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart musical Babes in Arms. It is now a jazz standard, appearing on over 1300 albums performed by over 600 artists. Make that 602 artists now! From Roy Hargrove, Chet Baker, to Miles Davis this is arguably a trumpeters tune to croon and we really enjoyed putting our voices on it.
song 2
Bewitched
"Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" is a show tune and popular song from the 1940 Rodgers and Hart musical Pal Joey and is one of the most loved songs of the Great American Songbook. It is a classic and revered Jazz Standard that has been recorded by the best, most loved performers and musicians.

Mark Rapp: Token Tales
"A mature player with his feet set in both traditional jazz and modern groove playing, the South Carolinian weaves innovative lines over a set of strong original compositions and well-chosen covers."
Derek Lee Bronston: Empty River
"Empty River has also been embraced by Americana, Country and Roots radio charting for over 12 weeks on the Americana Music Association’s radio chart, debuting at 21 and climbing to 17 on the Roots Music Report."
